Avalonstar, my creation that started in September of 2000 has been through pretty much everything. From server failures, to hosting cutoffs, to being a source to rip off of and even being blamed for ripping; I can't say that I wouldn't want to do it all over again if I had the chance.
Not many people give their sites personality, they're just tools to show off ones' work with. I've always looked at that from a different perspective, I don't know if it has worked or not, but the "give my site personality" idea has been one that's stayed with me for a long time. In it's 15 incarnations, I wanted to take a look back, show you the history if you are a new to the domain, or to just jog your memory if you were ever a frequent.
Avalonstar has had 15 incarnations, 6 of them were never released, but were included in the count because they were fully coded before release. Here are some interesting encompassing facts about the domain:
- avalonstar.com was purchased on September 28, 2000.
- The first nine versions of the site were hosted on that domain until avalonstar.net was purchased six months later. Dot com was then made into a more corporate style site.
- avalonstar.org existed for a short time and hosted 2 blogs of mine, and later was redirected to my LiveJournal.
- There are 3 complete PSD folders of artwork, layouts and logos, for 2001-2003 totalling 10GB. The fourth for 2004 was just created, who knows how large that one can get.
- There are about 10 layouts for all three sites that never made it past the Photoshop slicing board.
- So far only two versions have been in Flash, but were collectively online for only 3 weeks.
- Other than a person who had used "avalonstar" as their LiveJournal name, you'll only find links related to this site through a Google search (I hope).
- Half of the versions are pretty monochromatic. I guess over the years I became color blind.
- Names that the site has gone by: Avalonstar Enterprises, Avalonstar Interactive [Studios], Avalonstar Omnimedia, and then just Avalonstar.
- I first started using the famed "Phoenix" logo after the site had moved to avalonstar.net.
- I'm the true "synicide" and "avalonstar", there are many imposters, but they're nothing like the real deal.
